What is a CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, is subscription farming. Families make a preseason payment to purchase a “share” of the farm’s harvest. The shareholder receives a weekly box about the size of an over stuffed grocery bag, or more, full of fresh produce. The season is 22 weeks, from May thru September. What does it cost? Our preseason prices are - full-box share $550. - 3 monthly full share payments $195 each - half-box share $300. - 3 monthly half share payments $110 each How do I sign up? Step 1 -Check “The Agreement” Step 2 - Complete shareholder information Step 3 - Select a share subscription. Step 4 - Select a pickup location. Step 5 - Send payment and application |
What do I get?
We make every effort to fill your bags and boxes. The first boxes early in the season will be mostly leafy greens. We continue with the greens but start to add peas and then beans and cucumbers. Then, as we lose most greens, we add broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, garlic, onions, potatoes and zucchini. There is a long climax of sweet corn, tomatoes, sweet peppers and eggplant. The last few weeks we add winter storage items like winter squash and turnips. Volunteer shares! This year we are offering a limited number of volunteer shares. Work 4 hours, once a week for a full share. Work the same day, same hours every week. Help us pick, clean and pack. Take home your share! If you are interested in a volunteer share call or email Terry at 712-545-9300 or terry@iowanafarm.com Can I volunteer AND buy a CSA share? Many shareholders like to work in the garden but have a schedule too busy for a volunteer share commitment. We will be organizing volunteer work days around specific tasks throughout the season. If you would like to be contacted about the work days, just make a note on your application. What is the CSA Kids' Program? We visualize developing an Iowana Farm CSA Kids' Program with a small group of parents and kids. The core of the program will be a series of hands on workshops throughout the gardening season. IF you are interested in helping us with this program, make a note on the CSA application form. |
How much do I get?
The weekly box consists of produce (see our PRODUCTS page) that is in season. Each box is equivalent to an overstuffed grocery bag, or more, depending on the month. May and June will be mostly greens. Early July can be light because it is too warm for cool season product but it hasn’t been hot enough, long enough, for warm season product. August and September are bumper crop months. Where do I pick up my box? Boxes will be delivered to the Bread Oven every Wednesday. There are two locations, one in Dundee and one in West Omaha. Boxes are ready or pickup Saturday and Sunday afternoons at the farm in Crescent, Iowa. Sign up for one of these locations on the application form. How do I sign up and pay? Complete a Mail-in Application print and mail with check, or "copy and paste" the application into email to terry@iowana.com and pay Online
