Our season starts in early November when we plant garlic. In December we order seeds. We start seedlings in January, February an March.

Seedlings go in the hoop houses in March. Peas go into the soil on St Patty’s Day. Potatoes go in on Good Friday. Cole seedlings get planted in mid-April followed by early sweet corn.

Last frost day in the Loess Hills is May 8. We seed beans, cucumbers, squash, melons, beets, turnips, sweet peppers and eggplants. Our largest crop is heirloom tomatoes. Our first planting is in the hoop house in April. The second planting is in May in the field.

Snap peas come on in June, as do broccoli and cabbages.

Finally in mid-July we have vegetables coming out of our ears. This usually lasts through September.

Then we clear the fields to ready next year. That is after we plant and mulch the garlic!
